La Española - Chicago Latino Film Festival 2016 Submission
Graphic & Typographic Design
The Chicago Latino Film Festival is one of the biggest film festivals in Chicago. The Festival is hosted by the International Latino Cultural Center. Every year, the center launches a contest where all designers are invited to submit their poster designs. One designer is chosen as the winner and has his/her design featured as the official poster of the Chicago Latino Film Festival. The winner is also awarded $1000 cash prize.
La Española was my submission for the 2016 film festival. What inspired me to create this poster was my interest in Spanish culture. A large part of my ancestry originates from Spain and I wanted to further explore that part of my heritage. I was really fascinated with Flamenco and I found it to be one of the most beautiful, graceful, expressive, and complex arts of dance I have ever seen. As a result, I based my subject on a passionate Flamenco dancer and stylized the layout with Spanish themes, such as red blossoms, Flamenco fans, and patterns.
