Invitation Design
Visual & Typographic Design
Based on an earlier project I had done, The Quark Press Dinner Party is an invitation card design. The project had two parts: phase one and phase two. Phase one was a classical layout which consisted of center-aligned text, emphasis on typographic hierarchy, use of a serif typeface and efficient use of space between lines of text. Phase two was a contemporary approach where a sans-serif typeface was used, typographic layout was more liberal and unconventional, such as dramatic shifts in letter sizing and vertical text alignment.
Both iterations were vastly different and proved to be very challenging to design because both phases contained the same content, but had opposing styles. During the composition stage, there were multiple sketches that I had to do before I reached the desired layout for the first phase. The process was similar for the second phase, but I had a lot more freedom that allowed me to be more creative. Phase one was much more constricted and adhered to very traditional rules of layout design. Phase two was all about breaking the rules of old and redefining a new style.
